Things To Do In Arkansas At Turner Falls

Located in south-west Oklahoma near the small town of Pinellas County, near Tampa, is the charming and picturesque town of Turner Falls. The name of this waterfall derives from the Spanish word “trensa” for thunder. The falls themselves are caused by the Thunderbird Creek and it is considered to be the largest man-made waterfall in the world. The falls can be found from the St. Mary’s River to the Gulf of Mexico.

Turner Falls is actually a series of waterfalls, whose source is the Thunderbird creek, which is located just below the falls park. It is believed that these falls were formed millions of years ago by natural flooding of lakes and rivers. As the waters dried up, the water slowly built up pressure along the edges of the crevices of rocks and created long walls. These walls now cause the impressive tiers and drop of the water. The water from the falls is fed into a man-made channel, called “The Wash,” which diverts the water to the east where it forms the three falls that make up the park.

Visitors and campers can marvel at the panoramic view of the natural landscape while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the park. A special feature of the park is The Cabin, which is constructed entirely of wood and comprised of five rustic cabins surrounding a lagoon in the center. This unique park offers scenic camping, picnic, swimming and boating access. Other attractions include The Fall, the tallest waterfall in the world; Hike-a-bow, a hiking trail with beautiful views; Nature Sculpture Garden; and The Wildflower Center, which houses more than a dozen species of plants. The park also boasts an amusement center complete with several thrilling rides.

Another reason to visit Oklahoma City is the convenience of taking the park bus, which goes directly to the turner falls park from downtown Oklahoma City. The free bus service allows visitors to experience Oklahoma City to its fullest. Once inside the park, visitors can hike the seven miles of Creek Canyon, or just relax on the beach or near one of the many dining areas. The park offers several other activities for those who prefer to stay close to nature. Visitors can enjoy fishing, camping, horseback riding, swimming and fishing, hiking, biking and boating on the many miles of county-road bike trails.

Not only does Oklahoma City have a beautiful natural environment, it also has an active nightlife. It is home to several popular bars and restaurants that offer fun and affordable entertainment. Two of the best known names in the town are Grille West and Elk & Ina. Grille West features indoor dancing for all ages, live music and several varieties of food.

For nature lovers, nothing beats enjoying a quiet evening by the edge of the Ozark Mountains in a private natural swimming pool. Visitors can head into the crisp autumn air to enjoy the breathtaking fall colors or just marvel at the amazing landscape as the sun sets over the hills. The beautiful Arkansas River makes sure that visitors never get too far away from the falls. However, the Arkansas River is only one of the many factors that bring people to the county’s parks, playgrounds and lakes. The parks have been beautifully restored and are a great place for families to get away from the city grind.

For those interested in history and culture, exploring the turner falls area brings a treasure trove of information. One of the highlights is the National Register of Historic Places.
